Mike's skin cancer surgery..

Poor Mike had a hard time with all this...initially it took 9 needles to freeze him. They removed the cancer and bandaged him up. The doctor asked if he wanted some Tylenol #3s and he turned them down saying he probably wouldn't use them.
When we got home he was feeling okay and was going to email Terry (from CSB) to let him know he'd be there Friday night...well, I told him to wait until the freezing came out.....and it did. Around 5ish he was in so much pain he could not even talk..he was writing notes on a piece of paper.
I tried to call the clinic where he'd had the surgery done and they were already closed. So I convinced him (along with my friend Tammy) to go to the walk-in clinic to get some pain medication.
The doctor on-call was very, very compassionate and I ran next door to get the prescription filled. After taking 2 pills he had a nice long rest.
On Saturday he was taking them around every 5 or 6 hours..on Sunday even less. And today he didn't take one because he wanted to drive me to work :)

Sucessful ArmyRun 2009

Kris and I had a very successful Army Run. We were in different corrals and I was right behind the 35 minute pace bunny.

I had to constantly go around people, up on the grass, etc....I ran 3K in 16 minutes..but the rest of the 2K I was slowed down quite a bit.

One lesson I learned was that I don't want to run by myself....AND I will always run one corral ahead.

Overall, it was a beautiful sunny day.

Picked up Race Kit today

I picked up my race kit today....got my microchip activated and picked up my t-shirt. (I might add that it is a very nice long sleeved running shirt, NOT cotton).
I ran into Jacquline who had been my clinic instructor for the 5K clinic at Slater Street. It was so nice to see her and we went and got our shirts and went through the BMO Expo together.

Crayons

We could learn a lot from crayons... Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names, and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box

Army Run - Race Day Countdown - 4 days

Kris, Alain and I have decided to attend the Pasta dinner on Saturday, Sept 19th...John Stanton, founder of the Running Room will be speaking, as well as other Military members.

I am getting quite excited about this race. Being ex-Military, it's a great feeling to be involved in this race!
I anticipate my time to be under 30 minutes. Krissy and I did a test run 2 weeks ago and ran it in 28 minutes. (but I was really pushing myself)

New Year's Eve Planning....

I must be crazy...but I just booked a 10K run on New Years eve.....It's something that the Running Room has been doing for 26 years now...and I get a FREE jacket..

10K Clinic and Hills

So this week we start hill training...as I am not able to make it this Wednesday, (I'm taking Kim out for her birthday supper), I decided to find a good hill near my place.
One collegue on the RR forum suggested Willowdale...it's a nice long hill, at least 6% grade and 400m...Krissy and I will be running this on Thursday night. 3 Hills this week.

10K Clinic - 4th week

I am into my 4th week of training for the 10K Human Race at the end of October. I am really enjoying all this running! It's giving me so much energy and happily affecting my mood in such a good way.
I am still looking for a running partner in my area, have posted a notice on the RR forums.

I also discovered my friend Lori is training for the 1/2 marathan Army Run. She and I will probably do some running once her marathon is finished.
